in light of a friend's recent miscarriage and another friend's reminder of the years and years of grieving jacob went through over his son joseph...I skimmed right through genesis until I got to chapters 37&42-50.
42:38 if harm comes to him on the journey you are taking, you will bring my gray head down to the grave in sorrow.
in light of the famine that was striking the rest of his descendants, jacob wasn't even going to consider letting his youngest leave his sight for fear that he would parish like his brother! and how many thoughts must have been going through all the brother's minds that sold joseph into slavery therefor literally ripping him away from the father who loved him so.
